Family tree software allows you to input your family history information and then print it in various formats and reports. It is not my intention to review family tree software here, but you should know that you can get free genealogy software via the internet. Family Tree Maker is the most popular commercial genealogy software, but there are some good free programs available.  For more references to genealogy software see www.cyndislist.com/software.htm.

Personal Ancestry File from FamilySearch.org 

Get the free PAF Personal Ancestry File by going to the Order/Download Products link at FamilySearch.org.  This program can automatically create a web site of your family records.  Lessons for using the program are at  www.familysearch.org/eng/paf/lessons/paf5.html. Although programs like Family Tree Maker have many more features, you can use a program like PAF and then transfer you information using the GEDCOM format to a another program later.  An example image of the PAF program follows.

Ancestry Family Tree Software

Ancestry.com provides the free AFT Ancestry Family Tree program at aft.ancestry.com. It has many features similar to the PAF program.  There is a very good animated Guided Tour at www.ancestry.com/aft/flashdemo.htm.  An example screen image of AFT follows.
